Job Description Summary
The Audio Visual Programmer supports the design, implementation, programming, and maintenance of audio visual systems in classrooms, conference rooms, and campus event spaces. The Audio Visual Programmer ensures that audio visual technology enhances teaching, learning, and administrative collaboration. The position plays a key role in maintaining system reliability and delivering seamless user experiences.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • One to Two years of college credit (30 credit hours are equivalent to one year) or certification in a related field.
  • Three years of progressive experience in the delivery, integration, and support of analog and digital AV technology solutions.
  • Extron Certified AV Associate (EAVA) or other Extron certifications preferred.
  • Associates degree preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot Extron and Crestron control systems, processors, and AV components.
  • Design, develop, and update AV control system code, GUI interfaces, and automation scripts.
  • Install and integrate AV hardware including projectors, displays, audio systems, switching equipment, and control interfaces.
  • Collaborate with IT staff, faculty, and facilities to support AV design requirements for instructional and administrative use.
  • Maintain system documentation, wiring diagrams, and programming source files.
  • Diagnose AV system issues and provide Tier 2–3 technical support as needed.
  • Conduct functional testing and quality assurance of AV systems after installation or upgrades.
  • Maintain and update firmware, software, and configuration settings in AV components.
  • Train end-users and AV support staff on system operation and best practices.
  • Ensure AV system designs align with ADA accessibility requirements and college technology standards.
  • Assist with setup of A/V equipment for various events, from large to small productions.
  • Recommend and implement changes in work processes to improve the quality and effectiveness of service.
  • Maintain high ethical standards of conduct and procedures to assist in ensuring the security of the college’s technology assets and data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of AV control systems and programming tools, such as Global Configurator, Global Scripter, and GUI Designer.
  • Knowledge of AV signal types and signal flow, including HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA, audio, and AV-over-IP.
  • Knowledge of audio DSP configuration, microphone and speaker placement, and acoustic considerations.
  • Knowledge of networking principles related to AV systems, including IP addressing, VLANs, and PoE.
  • Knowledge of standards and best practices for classroom and conference room AV system design.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to identify problems quickly and implement effective solutions with minimal disruption.
  • Ability to coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to support AV projects.
Job Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions may be required to install, repair or troubleshoot AV-related technologies.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to work Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, but occasionally they required to lift and carry equipment that can weigh up to 50 pounds and setup AV and computer equipment which involves pushing and pulling heavy carts, bending and crawling under desks and climbing ladders for wire hookup and management. Must be available for occasional evening and weekend work during campus events or emergency support. Work is performed primarily in campus buildings and may include classrooms, conference rooms, and network closets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
