Job Description Summary
Responsible for performing all tasks required of the Lifeguards and responsible for all water chemistry readings and make chemical adjustment when needed. Monitor and operate all Natatorium equipment. In the absents of the coordinator or assistant coordinator the head lifeguard will perform their essential duties. This will require the supervision of the Lifeguards, Desk Attendants and all patron activities. The head lifeguard will also at times be required to act as the desk attendant.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two to three years of related experience as a Lifeguard and Pool Operator or required course work/certification.
  • Current Prince George’s County Health Department Swimming Pool Operator’s License.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate.
Criteria
CRITERIA: The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. Other information and observations made during the interview process may be considered in the selection process. A Resume/CV and cover letter are required with the application. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Monitors chemistry balance of the pools and filtration systems
  • Adjusts chemicals as needed to maintain balance to assure water quality
  • Maintains daily water quality records as required by the Prince George’s County Health Department
  • Monitors air and water temperatures to have adjustments made as needed
  • Maintains all required certifications and licenses
  • Assures that all Prince George’s County Health Department regulations, Natatorium rule and college policies are followed
  • Assist in-service training of staff as well as testing lifeguard proficiency
  • Performs and assists coordinating the hands-on annual maintenance of the facility
  • Performs lifeguarding and cashiering duties as necessary
  • Must be willing to set up and remove equipment for scheduled pool activities
  • Must be willing to perform required maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Assists in supervising employees that are on duty
  • Assists in counting and reconciling monies throughout the day and completes proper administrative documents when filling in for the coordinator
  • Maintains associated facilities, i.e. weight room and racquetball courts
  • Ensures a safe and clean environment for patrons
  • Responsible for setting up and taking down equipment; adjusting pool floor, lane makers, and bulkhead for activities
  • Assures maximum safety of all Natatorium patrons
  • Informs natatorium management of any needed repairs or needed supplies
  • Provides customer service as a representative of the College
  • Performs and assumes responsibilities and duties of the coordinator in the absence of the coordinator
  • Performs related work as required

  • Skilled as a Pool Operator and Lifeguard
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and patrons in spoken and written standard English
  • Supervisory and managerial experience
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Skilled in, or potential for working effectively with a diverse, multi‑ethnic clientele
  • Ability to pass a Lifeguard skills test
  • Ability to use a cash register
  • Ability to oversee the handling of funds
Job Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and repetitive motions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Swim 1/2 miles per week to maintain fitness
  • Able to work in, around, on top of, and under pool equipment
  • Able to lift 150lbs. with assistance (chemical bags necessary for pool operations)
  • Perform as a Lifeguard in accordance with staff policies and American Red Cross Lifeguard Standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview
