Job Description Summary
The Senior Audio Visual Technician serves as the college’s lead technical expert for the installation, maintenance, and support of classroom and event audiovisual systems. This role ensures reliable, high-quality AV experience for instructional delivery, college events, and day-to-day operations. The Senior Technician is responsible for overseeing complex AV projects, supporting high-profile hybrid and in-person events, and managing AV system upgrades and integrations using Extron, Crestron, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other college-supported technologies.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience supporting analog and digital AV technology solutions in an educational, corporate, or institutional setting.
  • Associate’s degree in information technology, audiovisual technology, or a related field is preferred and may substitute for 2 years of required experience.
  • Hands-on experience supporting virtual and hybrid environments using Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Extron Certified AV Associate or other Extron certifications preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Coordinate, install, and configure AV systems, including projectors, digital signage, sound systems, video conferencing equipment, control systems, and lecture capture technologies.
  • Lead the technical execution and AV support for high-profile college events, including Board of Trustees meetings, Commencement, and College-Wide Forums.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for troubleshooting and resolving complex AV issues in classrooms, conference rooms, and event spaces.
  • Provide advanced technical support for Zoom and Microsoft Teams-based hybrid events and instructional sessions.
  • Train and mentor AV technicians and student workers. Provide guidance and serve as a point of escalation.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to assess AV needs and recommend technology solutions for instructional and administrative use.
  • Maintain AV system documentation, asset inventory, and room standards.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to assess AV needs and recommend effective solutions.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of AV components in new construction and renovation projects.
  • Research emerging AV technologies and recommend upgrades to improve system reliability, user experience, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Stay current on AV technology trends, recommending upgrades and enhancements as appropriate.
  • Maintain and enforce AV operational procedures, including scheduling, maintenance, and equipment loan processes.
  • Recommend and implement changes in work processes to improve the quality and effectiveness of audiovisual services.
  • Participate in AV budget planning, procurement, and vendor coordination.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of AV systems, including projectors, control systems (Crestron and Extron), video displays, microphones, speakers, and switching equipment.
  • Knowledge of signal transmission (audio, video, control), AV over IP technologies, and basic networking concepts related to AV system performance and connectivity.
  • Ability to integrate and use Zoom and Microsoft Teams within physical AV environments for hybrid meetings, webinars, and instructional delivery.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders, deliver end-user training, and collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to manage simultaneous support requests, project responsibilities, and event coverage without compromising service quality.
  • Ability to work independently in solving problems and completing tasks, while also collaborating effectively with colleagues and providing mentorship to junior staff.
Job Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions may be required to install, repair or troubleshoot AV-related technologies.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to work Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, but occasionally they are required to lift and carry equipment that can weigh up to 50 pounds and setup AV and computer equipment which involves pushing and pulling heavy carts, bending and crawling under desks and climbing ladders for wire hookup and management. Must be available for occasional evening and weekend work during campus events or emergency support. Work is performed primarily in campus buildings and may include classrooms, conference rooms, and network closets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
